There are two lines 天津 の「泥人張の泥人形」from Tientsin 江蘇省無錫 の「恵山泥人形」from Kiangsu ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: 汗ばむや泥人形の楊貴妃も asebamu ya doro ningyoo no Yooki hi mo sweating - even the clay doll of Princess Yoki-Hi Oshima Tamio 大島民郎 quote Yang Gui Fei, 杨贵妃 as Yokihi Yang Gui Fei, 杨贵妃, or Lady Yang was the consort of Tang Emperor who was forced to commit suicide during a mutiny in 756 CE. Yang Yuhuan was born in 719, early in the reign of her future husband Emperor Xuanzong. Her great-great-grandfather Yang Wang (楊汪) was a key official during the reign of Emperor Yang of Sui, and, after the breakup of Sui Dynasty, served one of the contenders to succeed Sui, Wang Shichong the Emperor of Zheng; Yang Wang was then killed when Wang Shichong was defeated by Tang Dynasty forces in 621. Yang Wang was from Huayin (華陰, in modern Weinan, Shaanxi), but his clan subsequently relocated to Yongle (永樂, in modern Yuncheng, Shanxi). In Japan, Yang Gui Fei, is known as Yokihi. The Japanese believed that Lady Yang did not die in Mawei but had escape to Japan. One version claimed that she arrived by sea at Yamaguchi, 山口县, and died shortly afterwards. There is also a Lady Yang tomb in where the Japanese believed she was buried. Other versions claimed that Lady Yang participated in Japanese court life and even helped to suppress Japanese palace coups. In 2002, the popular Japanese star, Yamaguchi Momoe, 山口百惠 claimed that she was a descendent of Lady Yang. In Kyoto, there are two temples related to Lady Yang. When the Tang court ended the An Lu Shan rebellion, 安史之乱, Emperor Tang Ming Huang had already abdicated in favor of his son. When he returned to Chang an, Tang Ming Huang missed Lady Yang and had heard about her death in Japan. He instructed a general to send two Buddhist sculptures to the temple where she was buried. The General arrived in Japan but left the sculpture in another temple, Seiryoji, 清凉寺, in Kyoto. When the other temple heard about the incident, the two temples began negotiating about the two sculptures and even had to involve the Japanese Imperial Court. In another temple Sennyoji, 泉涌寺, in Kyoto, they claimed to have a sculpture of Lady Yang as a guan yin, 杨贵妃观音. This sculpture is now classified as a national treasure. Zodiac Signs of the Buddhist Mandala
The zodiac signs as we presently know them were devised around the year 500 BCE in Mesopotamia based on an earlier model of eighteen signs. Within a few centuries the Greeks were deeply involved in the study of astronomy and astrology. Hellenistic astrology, which was the foundation for later European and Islamic traditions of astrology, was largely produced in Alexandria in Egypt starting around the second century BCE. Alexander died in 323 and Ptolemy took control of Egypt. The Ptolemaic Kingdom (305–30 BCE) ruled over Egypt until it came under Roman domination after the death of Cleopatra (69–30 BCE). The Romans subsequently took a deep interest in astrology and in the late Republic of the first century BCE it served as an exotic and alternative system of divination in competition with traditional Roman divination (augury and so forth). Although the chronology is somewhat unclear, between the second to fifth centuries CE, Hellenistic astrology was introduced to India and in various ways blended with the native systems of religious lore and astrology based on the twenty-seven or twenty-eight nakṣatra-s (lunar stations).

Once upon a time
an old man took a toasted buckwheat cake with him to his garden patch when he went to dig.
While he was digging a rat came out cautiously. The old man broke off half of his cake and gave it to the rat.
It picked it up and crawled back into its hole.
The rat came out again, and the old man gave him some of his cake again. He picked it up and went back into its hole.
Then the father rat came out and thanked the old man.
He invited him to his house. The old man closed his eyes as he was told and followed the rat. He found himself in a splendid parlor.
The children that he had seen before came out and thanked him. He was given a fine feast.
When he started to leave, they gave him money.
The old man next door tried to imitate him. He took a toasted buckwheat cake to his garden patch to dig. He gave some of his cake to the little rats and was invited to their home.
While he was eating, he saw rats put gold into a mortar. As they pounded it, they sang, “We don’t want to hear a cat’s voice!”
The old man wanted the gold, so he imitated a cat. All the rats ran away, and the place became pitch dark. The old man looked around and found himself in his own garden patch with his head stuck into a rat hole.

The stamp dates back to 1960.
It relates back to the great famine of Tenpoo 天保 1832 - 1839, when hungry workers began to make it and sell it for a bit of money or exchange for food.
It is a small mechanical doll, with a wooden mouse on a board and a piece of bamboo as spring. When you touch it, the mouse lowers its head and begins to "eat" the rice grain - kotsu kotsu コツコツ ... just as money will increase "bit by bit".

Farmers made this toy with the wish for a good harvest, to have enough rice to eat their fill. If you keep this mouse happy, money will come to your home too.

nadeushi, nade-ushi　撫で牛　/ 撫で牛 bull to stroke

The statue is a black stone bull, lying down comfortably to bring a peaceful heart to people who look at it. It is called
ushi no gozen 牛の御前 the honorable bull
at the shrine Ushijima Jinja 牛嶋神社 in Sumida ward, Tokyo.
It also heals all your physical ailments and injuries, if you touch the bull and then your own hurting body part.


The little amulet is a clay doll from Imado and only sold once very 12 years during the "Year of the Bull"　丑年.
Just putting it in your room makes you feel better.

Tora トラ　- 虎　- 寅　the Tiger Toys . Tora Yakushi 寅薬師 "Tiger Yakushi" - Yakushi Nyorai . The tiger is one of the 12 zodiac animals of the Asian calendar. He is therefore a well-liked animal in folk art and handicraft. . 2010 the Year of the Tiger 寅年 toradoshi the white tiger in the West 白虎 It comes as a papermachee doll, clay doll or clay bell and other materials. A tiger "can run for a thousand miles" and sees things far away, so it is a symbol for strength and good health. In China the tiger was known to ward off evil influence from the mind, so people put up little tiger figures to protect themselves and their families. Something that is very special to you and you do not want to let go is called tora no ko　虎の子 child of a tiger. This shows the strong bond between a mother and her children. Tigers are not native to Japan, but people of old have used their imagination to produce figures according to the tales they have heard and paintings they could collect from abroad. The first real tiger was brought to Japan via the Korean embassy in 1595 as a present to Toyotomi Hideyoshi. This is an old clay figure from Fushimi, in the collection of the Japan Toy Museum. The Tiger Collection of the Museum is from Nagao Zensaburo 長尾善三, who collected more than 1000 tiger pieces.
